In touch with history and our destiny
Hazrat Qadir Shah Lahori (RA) was born in Koocha Namdah Maalaan, Dehli Gate Lahore. His father’s name was Muhammad Sualeh Namdah Maal. At the age of 12 he became disciple of Maulana Muhammad Azam (RA), the ancestors of Hakeem Ghulam Qadir Asar. {Who was the successor (Khalifa) of Syed Qaaem Ali Barqandazi (RA) and Qaaem Barqandazi was the successor of Mian Abdul Ghafoor (RA) But after noticing his great interest in Soofism, Maulana Muhammad Azam entrusted him to his son Mian Ghulam Hasan.
He was so deeply involved in love of his Murshid (teacher in Soofism) that he used to go in prostration whenever he speaks the name of his Murshid. Moreover, whenever visited ‘Basti Shaikh Darwesh”, he would not sit on bed or any higher place just in respect of his Murshid. He continued doing so till his death. He used to go on foot to Amritsar to meet his Murshid . He would sweep the area from Khanqaah (monastery) to drawing room daily. On the way back he would walk reverse (keeping his face towards the city of his Murshid) about eight miles. After the death of his Murshid, he would revolve around his grave daily in morning and evening. During every stay at Basti, he never snubbed, beat, or hit any dog, rather he would give food to the dogs first and then eat himself. He would respect the people of Basti Darwesh.
On the way back when he used to return in reverse, many naughty boys would try to tease and make his fun and he often would fell down, but he never scolded them or became angry but laughed with the boys when they laughed at him. Sometime, when he had been to Amritsar, he used to come out through the “Toap Wala Darwaza” (the cannon door), recite “Soorah-e-Fateha” (Verses of Quran) keeping face towards Jalandhar and would reach “Dera” in reverse condition. Whenever he visited ‘Basti Shaikh’, the boys would gather around him and say “Make a lions roar”. He would recite Quranic Verses in a loud voice and jump few steps.
He acquired interest in worship from his childhood, so he participated in many religious meetings, forty days in solitude, spiritual exercises and in meditation. He went and kept meditation at the shrines of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Lahori, Hazrat Mian Mir Qadri and other spiritual saints in Lahore. He used to keep Fasting round the year and offered Salat-e-Tahajjud regularly. His face was red and eyes filled with divine love. He died on 10th Rabius-Saani 1301 Hijri The 8th February 1884 at Lahore. His shrine is in Sultanpura, Behind UET, Lahore. (“Anwarul-Qadiriah“by Hakeem Asar Jalandhari).
